London events you can't miss this summer
As the weather warms up and the sun comes out, visitors flock to all the great London summer events that take place during June, July and August.
London’s Sports Scene
There are well-known sports venues in London, and they don’t come more famous than Wimbledon. This fortnight of tennis attracts tennis fans, celebrities and even royalty. The Wimbledon Championships takes place from 1st July to 14th July 2019.
At The London Stadium in Stratford, the Boston Red Socks play the New York Yankees on 29th June. The first major baseball game arranged outside of the USA.
Twickenham, the home of England Rugby, holds the Rugby Union Quilter Cup on June 2nd with England XV versus Barbarians. And on the 11th of August England plays Wales.
Royal Ascot takes place 18th – 22nd June 2019. This huge horse racing event is all about enjoying the finer things in life.
The Cricket World Cup is on from 30th May to 14th July 2019. The matches are played at the Kia Oval and Lords and some of them in other locations outside London. Make sure not to miss the Final on the 14th of July at Lords!
Live Music In London
Metallica, the American heavy metal band, plays Twickenham stadium on June 20th.
In north London, Wembley Stadium hosts major football matches but is also a great music venue. In June this summer, the list of big names performing at Wembley includes Fleetwood Mac, Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, The Eagles, Sheryl Crow and Vance Joy.
Summer activities in London parks
Richmond Park is a glorious green space known for the deer that roam free there. You can hire bikes from the Parkcycle centre, or scale Henry’s Mound to take in the spectacular view.
At Syon Park, there's a full itinerary of summer activities London. Every Wednesday afternoon there’s a free tour of the house and garden. On June 12th and 13th, the opera Madame Butterfly is being performed in the Great Conservatory, and for 8 days commencing 20th July, a free Tree Trail is on offer as part of National Park City Week.
Take in a Shakespeare play at Osterley Park. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is being performed outdoors on the 15th June, and Much Ado About Nothing can be seen on 3rd August. For the family, there are craft days and veggie-planting days organised on several dates throughout July and August.
Kew Gardens houses botanical delights, and they also have events taking place in the summer. From the 20th July to 26th August Alice In Wonderland takes place in the theatre. From July 9th to July 14th Kew The Music welcomes Billy Ocean, Beverley Knight, Jools Holland, Rick Astley and Jess Glynne to the stage.
Hampton Court offers a great day out, but there are also incredible events arranged at the venue. The Hampton Court Festival, 6th to 22nd June, has an amazing line up of top acts such as Busted, The Jacksons, Jools Holland, Tears for Fears and Kylie. From 4th to 7th July, the RHS Hampton Court Garden Festival offers floral displays, creative gardens and an opportunity to buy plants of all kinds.
